Harold Baines is a nice guy and a fan favorite, lol. As a lifelong white sox fan, I love him, and he deserves to be in because he kept his head down and played hard. He's a class act and a humble person. Who cares if he doesn't have certain stats, he was an awesome DH and still deserves to be there based on his persona and a grinder. He's a role model. I'll defend him forever, lol. La Russa and Reinsdorf probably had a hand on getting him in, but I feel like he deserves it. I agree with you about Andruw Jones, too. I can't believe he's not in the HoF.

Back in 85 i eas in fifth grade and began really getting into baseball. I got a subscription for Baseball America, which was solely dedicated to the minor leagues. . I then tried to determine who would have a big career and who wouldn't, buying dozens and dozens of cards of various rookies. Id miss on a Kurt Stillwell or Randy Milligan, but also jad 20+ rookies of Bo Jackson, Barry Bonds, etc. fun times.

We tend to mock draft busts but what Terry Blocker did was more valuable than most major league baseball players ever achieve.

Jack Morris deservedly gets a lot of credit for his ‘84 and ‘91 World Series performances but his full post season record gets ignored. He did poorly in ‘87 ALCS and was a abysmal in the ‘92 post season for the Blue Jays, giving up 19 ER in 23 innings that October. The Jays won a ring that year in spite of him, not because of him. His post season ERA of 3.80 is just 10 points lower than his regular season career ERA. It’s a stretch to say he was masterful in the postseason, he was masterful in two out of 4 post season years and bad the other two.

Any argument that includes the stupidest stat ever created "WAR" automatically gets dismissed! It's literally a factious statistic with zero inherent value. If you replace the worst player in that position for a particular year your number is high and conversely the best it's low? How the hell can anything be derived from those factors? Not to mention it's a team game and wins are subjected to multiple variables. Randy Johnson should have at least 20-30 more wins but had zero run support in Seattle, so I guess he sucked (exaggerating) because he lost a game 2-1 or 1-0? WAR is the most ridiculous made up statistic in any sport ever!

anytime I see Toby Harrah mentioned I respond. I was 12 when he was traded to Cleveland from Texas for fan favorite Buddy Bell -- who responded by hitting ,329, driving in 101 and winning the first of 5 (or 6?) consecutive gold gloves in 1979. But, Toby Harrah endeared himself to Cleveland fans by having a 20/20 season scoring 100 runs twice and making his 4th All Star appearance by hitting .304 with 25 HRs and 17 SBs in 1982. He was a solid defensive 3B, too. People seemed to forget he signed and played as a SS for Senators-Rangers for his first 4 season+ so 3B was not a difficult transition. Honestly, I did not know he was never drafted? A year removed from high school, not going to college? Wow, indeed. great backstory. Just makes me appreciate Toby Harrah more, one of my favorite all time Cleveland Indian-Guardians.
